Exquisite Craft of Art

Residential Design by Han Chung Hung and Lu Hsiao Yang

Decorated with mirrors, the entrance and living room of the Exquisite Craft of Art design create a sense of spaciousness. The rich natural texture of the masonry elements, used for the entrance walls, public area flooring, and island dining table, adds to the luxurious ambiance. The TV wall features a marble base with shell mosaic, titanium alloy finishing, and mirrors on both sides, reflecting the main wall facade. Elements of leather, gloss-finished paint, stainless steel, and timber skin are seamlessly integrated throughout the design.

The interior space spans approximately 180 square meters and is filled with ample natural light, thanks to the absence of substantial divisive elements. The design cleverly conceals the man-made structural elements of beams and columns, creating an open-plan and free-flowing circulation possibility. Storage functionality is achieved through a simple yet delicate matrix of spatial vectors and volumes.

The Exquisite Craft of Art design features a clean-cut visual style with monotonic flooring materials in the public spaces. Ceiling detailing and furniture styling define the functionalities of each area. The white color scheme throughout the design creates a sense of unity, while diverse materiality is incorporated into cabinet and wall volumes, resulting in subtle changes in spatial visual perceptions.

Located in New Taipei City, Taiwan, the Exquisite Craft of Art design was completed in December 2016. Extensive research underlies the artistic characteristics of the space, which are not solely defined by the exhibits of artistic collections but also by the inherent artistic beauty of the spatial design. The design overcame the challenge of accentuating the refined craft quality of home living through meticulous materiality composition and detailing.

The Exquisite Craft of Art design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2018 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contributes to a better world.
